Turning a 2D layout into a massing model a client can actually see — blocks on a site, heights tested against regulation, shadows at 10am in December. The visualisation half of consultancy work, where AutoCAD stops.
What you will be able to answer
A client wants to see three density options for a site before the layout is fixed, and all that exists is the AutoCAD plan. What do you show them?
The DWG imported at checked units and used as the base, plot footprints extruded to the floor counts each option assumes, with repeated buildings as components so changing one type updates every copy rather than requiring forty edits. Whether the massing means anything depends on it being modelled to real dimensions and read back against the height, setback and floor-area figures permitted on that site — a massing that ignores them compares options that could not be built. Saved scenes and a shadow study at a stated location, date and time are what make the three comparable, and regenerable when the layout changes.

Concept 1
Concept 1 · Drawing in three dimensions for the first time
Concept 2
After: interface-and-first-shape
Several 2D footprints extruded into volumes by typing the exact height.

Concept 3
After: push-pull
Numeric values typed to push a face to an exact dimension instead of dragging it there.
Video title and channel appear once unlocked.
Concept 4
After: push-pull
Ungrouped geometry sticking to and distorting its neighbour, then a component edited once across every copy.

Concept 5
After: precision-modelling
A DWG brought in, import units checked, and the geometry scaled off a known dimension.
Video title and channel appear once unlocked.
Concept 6
After: importing-cad, groups-and-components
Footprints extruded to floor counts with FAR and site coverage updating live as they change.
Video title and channel appear once unlocked.
Concept 7
After: massing-from-footprints
Real location, map texture and surrounding 3D buildings loaded around the proposal.
Video title and channel appear once unlocked.
Concept 8
After: massing-from-footprints
An external image texture applied to a wall and scaled until the elevation reads correctly.
Video title and channel appear once unlocked.
Concept 9
After: site-context-and-terrain
Geographic location set, then date and time moved to test how the building shades what is around it.
Video title and channel appear once unlocked.
Concept 10
After: shadows-and-sun, materials-and-styles
Scenes saved and managed, then exported as a walkthrough with resolution options.
