Independent / own practice

You run your own studio or freelance practice — designing homes, interiors, and small buildings for direct clients, charging a percentage of project cost or fixed fees. High autonomy and an uncapped ceiling, but lean early years and project-dependent income. Most architects start employed and go independent after 5–10 years.

Common questions

Legally you can design, but to call yourself 'Architect' and stamp drawings you need COA registration. Non-statutory interiors, retail fit-outs, and design consulting can be offered under titles like Interior Designer or Design Consultant. Practically, client trust requires a few years of experience first.
